My name is Richard Duree and for the past 47 years I have been committed to assisting people to develop the skills to understand themselves better and to take responsibility (the ability to respond) for their own wellbeing, both mentality and physically.
My journey into my own personal healing began back in the early 70s while living on a commune in Southern Oregon. I had traveled there to assist my cousin in his endeavor to build a house.
At that time I thought I would become an architect or engineer and had just finished a project to industrialize the process of growing insects for biological control of insects on farm crops in Berkeley California.
Like many people who become interested in alternative medicine I sort of fell into it, literally. I was involved in a motorcycle accident. I hit the pavement at approximately 60 miles per hour. I was taken to a local orthopedic surgeon who told me that I needed to have the vertebrae fused together in my neck. This option seemed like a last resort for me, which I would do if necessary.
A person living at the commune suggested that I go see a doctor named Larry Hill. Dr. Hill did a type of hands on therapy on me that solved my neck issue and suggested that I live with him and learn the techniques he had developed.

After studying with him for many months he woke up one morning as told me I should find a man named John Thie in Pasadena California.
I didn’t move in that direction at that moment. I went to Washington State and while sitting in my tipi on the Columbia River Gorge my friend from school Dr. Brian Anthony appeared looked at me and asked if I had ever heard of a doctor named John Thie. That was enough to convince me to head down to Pasadena California.
It turned out that Dr. Thie was developing a program called Touch for Health and I eventually became the research director for Thie Chiropractic and the Touch for Health Foundation. Our goal was to empower individuals to gain awareness of their structure and learn a system to realign it by employing a modified version of Applied Kinesiology.
